One of the dozens of albums published for the Asmara Records by the Indonesian artist Darso (or Hendarso, according to the period or the case). Leading exponent of the Sundanese genre called calung, we can just love his entire musical production (not limited to the calung, by the way). Great music for meditation or workout.

An interesting contemporary album by an enfant prodige of a productive (and still strong) subgenre of Indonesian music called pop Sunda, that is Sundanese pop. Pop like popular, but still quite exotic for our western ears. We recommend in in particular the main track, "Budak jalanan", that is a street child.

The Balkans are full of singers and bands that have written the history of music in their countries - while abroad are obscure. Thats the case of Mr Mile Kitić and Južni Vetar band. These Serbian guys never miss a beat, and this album is proof of that. If you like late 1980s europop, do not miss this album.

If you aren't Sicilian, actually (probably) from Palermo, you can't get the best from this rare pearl. This cassette is contemporary, just from 1990, but we can consider it already traditional. All real Palermo citizens know by heart at least one of the tracks of this immortal album, which contains comedy skits in a musical form - in the dialect of the town. This is the best. The price speaks for itself.

This is another legend. We are talking about Nicolae Guță magnificul (The magnificent), as they call him sometimes. And this album is one of his first ones so it's pure gold. These cassettes just disappeared from Romania, because they were considered just trash - and treated like trash, directly in the garbage bin. But the musical level, clearly Romani with Romanian nuances, is high. The album has tracks in both Romanian and Romani language, in fact. Do not miss this!

An image of the cassette album cover called «Album» by the the italian singer Gianni Celeste
Gianni Celeste 1992
Album VG++/VG+
Neomelodic/Ballad 12€
Italy MC
► More about this

Gianni Celeste is, if not the king, an oligarch of a southern-Italian musical sub-genre called neomelodic. Neomelodic music is strictly sung in neapolitan dialect (even if the singer him/herself isn't from Naples, as in the case of Gianni Celeste who comes from Catania, Sicily) and it's a popular genre among the low classes people. Its songs talk about impossible love, cheating, jail, drug, friendship and also mafia. Considered as trash music by many, yet is listened by many others. Surely an interesting document to know more about the society of southern Italy.
